# Rate limits Limits apply per account and are shared by all of its API keys. | Operations | Requests per second | | --- | --- | | Search | 5 | | Contents | 5 | | Research | 3 | | Get, cancel and delete Run, combined | 10 | Over a limit, requests return 429 rate_limit_exceeded. Wait for Retry-After, then retry. Research also caps how many Runs can be in progress at once. Beyond that, new Research requests return 429 outstanding_run_limit until a Run ends. ## Response headers - `X-RateLimit-Limit` (integer): Requests allowed in the current window. The X-RateLimit headers may be omitted. - `X-RateLimit-Remaining` (integer): Requests left in the current window. - `X-RateLimit-Reset` (integer): Seconds until the window resets. - `Retry-After` (integer): Seconds to wait before retrying or getting the Run again. ## Usage allowance To keep usage fair, we size each account's allowance for most individual users' daily work. The allowance is enforced daily and weekly; when either is used up, requests return 429 daily_credits_exhausted or weekly_credits_exhausted until it renews.
